Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the treatment work?
- The laser light kills the acne bacteria that cause infection and which lead to the formation of spots. As the whole face is usually treated the bacteria are killed over a wide area reducing breakout and stopping the infection spreading.
- The formation of large amounts of new collagen below and around the spots gives a huge boost to the healing process, causing spots to disappear with the decreased likelihood of acne scars developing.

Active acne
The lasers work in two ways:
Treatment is painless and there have been no reported incidences of side effects other than a slight redness that lasts a few hours, or rarely mild bruising that lasts a few days.
The cost of treatment will be discussed at the initial consultation which is offered entirely free of charge with no obligation to undergo treatment.
Acne Scarring
Acne scarring is the response of the skin when it is damaged by infection, inflammation and scar tissue.
The laser works by heating up the lower layers of the skin producing collagen that stimulates a healing response. This acts as a new foundation for the skin, reducing scarring and improving skin tone.
These include topical antibiotics, topical benzoyl peroxide, oral antibiotics, oral contraceptive (in females) and topical and oral retinoids.
Initially a course of 2 to 4 treatments is usually recommended at 4 to 6 weekly intervals with the lasers and bi-weekly treatments with intense pulse light (IPL). Subsequent top up treatments may be required after this at approximately 6 monthly intervals. The effects of the treatment maybe prolonged with the use of medical grade skin care products.
The treatment is essentially painless. There have been no reported incidents of side effects other than a slight redness that lasts a few hours or rarely mild blistering and bruising, that lasts a few days. There is a small risk of pigment change.
All areas of the body can be safely treated.
All skin colours and skin types can benefit from the treatments.
There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the treatment can lead to skin disorders or an increased risk of skin cancer. Furthermore, every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of the patient. Having met all the necessary conditions, each Laserase centre is registered with the Healthcare Commission. Treatments are carried out only by qualified and fully trained doctors and nurses.
