Scars
Skin is scarred by many causes. These include acne, burns, surgery, accidents or chicken pox. Scars can make some people self-conscious.
Some types of scar can have their appearance improved, especially keloid and depressed scars.
At Laserase Croydon we offer a variety of treatments to improve the appearance of certain scars. These include dermaroller , the Nlite pulsed dye laser and dermal fillers for depressed acne scars, Intense Pulsed Light and Long Pulsed Nd Yag laser for vascular scars and triamcinolone injections for keloid scars.
At Laserase Croydon we can carry out an assessment during a Free Consultation and advise you on the most suitable treatment(s) to improve the appearance of your scar.

How does the treatment work?
Depressed Scars – Dermaroller and Nlite Pulsed Dye Laser stimulate collagen to be laid down within in a scar by creating controlled trauma to the skin. The process of new collagen formation takes around 3 months. Dermal fillers directly fill depressed scars.Vascular scars – Intense pulsed light (IPL) and Long Pulsed Nd YAG eliminate broken capilliaries within scars. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the blood generating heat that collapses the unwanted vein.
Keloid scars – Triamcinolone can be injected directly into the base of a keloid scar and over a period of weeks the scar will become gradually flatter.
Can all areas of the body be treated and does skin colour make a difference?
All areas of the body can be treated. It should be noted that fine scars are more likely to have noticeable results than large scars. All skin types can be treated and skin colour makes little difference to the benefits of the treatment. Are there any side-effects?
Rarely redness and irritation of the treated area may occur (like sunburn). There is also a small risk of pigment change following some treatments. A small minority of patients develop bruising or blistering or rarely infection. These usually settle within a few days. How many treatments are needed?
A series of 3 to 6 treatments are generally recommended depending on the treatment employed. This can be discussed in more detail with your practitioner. Methods to reduce further collagen breakdown include smoking cessation and the application of a moisturiser with SPF30 sun block. These will enhance the efficacy of the treatment. It must be remembered that the skin is constantly ageing, so it is envisaged that further treatments in the future may well be desirable. Is laser treatment safe?
Yes. There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the treatment can lead to skin disorders or an increased risk of cancer. Furthermore, every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of the patient.Having met all the necessary conditions, Laserase Croydon is registered with the Care Quality Commission. The lasers are also subject to annual checks by the Regional Radiation Physics & Protection Service.
The treatment is carried out only by qualified and fully trained doctors and nurses. Patients are required to wear approved protective goggles at all times.
